Therapy for Pregnancy, Postpartum & Maternal Mental Health
Compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for women navigating pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, loss, identity changes and maternal mental health.
We Help Women Navigate the Ups & Downs of Pregnancy, Postpartum & Motherhood
Pregnancy and becoming a mother can bring love and meaning—but also anxiety, grief, exhaustion, identity changes, relationship strain, and emotions you may not have expected. You do not have to minimize what you are experiencing or manage it alone.
Tranquillium offers women’s mental health therapy in Guelph and virtually across Ontario.
Are You Struggling During Pregnancy or Postpartum?
You may be:
Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, irritable, or unlike yourself
Constantly worrying about your pregnancy, your baby, or whether you are doing things “right”
Loving your baby deeply while struggling with the transition to motherhood
Feeling guilty because motherhood does not feel the way you expected
Recovering from a difficult pregnancy, traumatic birth, or challenging postpartum experience
Navigating pregnancy loss, difficulty bonding, or distressing intrusive thoughts
Feeling exhausted by the invisible pressure of caring for everyone else
You can love your baby and still find motherhood incredibly hard. You are not failing—and you do not have to navigate this alone.
Pregnancy and becoming a mother can affect nearly every part of your life—your body, identity, relationships, confidence, routines and sense of safety. Even a wanted pregnancy or long-awaited baby can bring fear, grief, resentment, ambivalence or overwhelm. You may feel pressure to enjoy every moment while privately missing who you were before motherhood.
Therapy gives you a compassionate, nonjudgmental place to be honest about what you are experiencing. You do not need a diagnosis or have to wait until things become unbearable. If you are struggling, that is enough reason to reach out.
Pregnancy and Postpartum Support That Centres You
What We Can Help You With
-
Pregnancy can bring uncertainty, physical changes and constant worry about whether you or your baby will be okay. Therapy can help you manage anxious thoughts, cope with uncertainty and feel more grounded throughout your pregnancy.
-
Postpartum mental health challenges do not always look like sadness. You may feel panicked, irritable, numb, disconnected, unable to rest or constantly on edge. Therapy can help you understand what you are experiencing and begin feeling more like yourself again.
-
Unwanted thoughts or images involving your baby can feel frightening and difficult to say out loud. Experiencing an intrusive thought does not automatically mean that you want to act on it. Therapy offers a safe place to discuss these thoughts without shame and receive appropriate support.
-
A birth can feel traumatic even when others believe everything turned out “fine.” You may feel frightened, powerless, unheard or distressed when remembering what happened. Trauma-informed therapy can help you process the experience and begin rebuilding a sense of safety and control.
-
Pregnancy loss can bring grief, anger, guilt, loneliness and anxiety about the future. Your loss matters, regardless of when it happened or how others responded. Therapy gives you space to grieve without being rushed, minimized or expected to move on.
-
Trying to conceive can become emotionally and physically exhausting. Therapy can support you through uncertainty, fertility treatments, repeated disappointment, relationship strain and the pressure to remain hopeful.
-
Bonding does not happen instantly for every mother. Anxiety, depression, trauma, exhaustion and a difficult recovery can all affect connection. Struggling to bond does not make you a bad mother or mean that your relationship with your baby cannot grow.
-
Motherhood can change how you see yourself, your body, your relationships and your future. Therapy can help you reconnect with your needs, communicate more clearly and rediscover who you are beyond caring for everyone else.
How Pregnancy and Postpartum Therapy Can Help
Therapy is not about telling you how pregnancy or motherhood should feel. It is about supporting you through what it actually feels like.
Depending on your needs, therapy may help you:
Manage anxiety, panic or intrusive thoughts
Process birth trauma or a difficult postpartum experience
Cope with miscarriage, pregnancy loss or fertility challenges
Understand and regulate overwhelming emotions
Reduce guilt, shame and self-blame
Rebuild confidence in yourself and your decisions
Adjust to changes in your identity and relationships
Communicate your needs and establish healthier boundaries
Feel more grounded, connected and like yourself again
Our therapists use compassionate, trauma-informed and individualized approaches. Your therapy may include cognitive, attachment-based, somatic and nervous-system-focused strategies based on your needs and goals.
